Just a tad disgusted
A few days ago my 7-year old sat down to watch "High School Musical 2". I have heard nothing but rave reviews from everyone on this. I came in the room about five minute into the movie and my jaw fell to the floor.
Here was this musical that has been pushed as family friendly and when I walked in I saw gobs and gobs of skin. These girls that are "supposed" to be role models for the tween set were scantily clad and seemingly proud of it. I am sure they were...they were getting paid of course. I honestly would have been embarrassed to have my husband watch it with us.
So after discussing it with my daughter, we came to the conclusion that it isn't appropropriate for us to have that in our home because we don't think we should let it be okay to dress that way or have their dad see girls dressed that way (no matter the girls figure).
Maybe I am naive in this, but why is it that companies can't make good, uplifiting, fun movies with girls who are appropriately covered?
This my friends, is why we don't own cable.

It really is scary that now days we have to even sort through the "family stuff". The world is a scary place to raise children, that's for sure. You're a good mommy to have the discussion with her and what a good girl you have there to make such a great decision!

You know what bugs me most about a lot of Disney movies? How the kids say hateful things like "I hate you" to their parents or "I wish you were dead" to their siblings.

It's so hard to make any pure and true wholesome movies.
And then when they do make a family film, people make fun of it.
I know what you mean, movies have gone down the tubes! I was appauled even by Happy Feet. There was so much sexual stuff in that movie. I about gagged. It is too bad we have to be "on guard" about all this horrible influence on our kids all the time. Way to go in making a good decision and talking to A about it too.
I just had to suffer through Disney's 'Jumping In' starring Corbin Bleu and the girl from Akeelah And The Bee. All the characters were covered modestly- but the dialogue was so lame and the cliches flowed like a fountain. Oh yeah, and of course their was NO MOM in the family. No intact families is a favorite theme in the Disney movie.
My mom is outraged that the star of High School Musical, Vanessa Hudgens, wasn't fired for her naked pictures showing up on the Internet. Obviously the Disney juggernaut prefers to let bad behaviour slide in the interest of keeping their big cash cow going.
