Works for Me Wednesday...Stain Removal

So I have this friend...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...who should seriously start a blog because she is one of the best homemakers/organizers that I know and she has tons of great ideas. Anyways, a couple of weeks ago she sent me a recipe for a stain pre-treater. My kids are notorious for getting anything and everything on their clothes. Now that it is the season of popsicles and grass stains, I need more than ever!!! I am pretty neurotic about treating the stains but I run out of my purchased pre-treaters pretty quick. This is one that I only had to buy one thing for and now that I have it on hand, all of the ingredients are in my house. I can't take credit for this recipe, but if she ever jumps on the blogging bandwagon, I will give the girl full credit!

Here you go.

Stain Pre-Treater
1/2 C Ammonia (clear, not lemon)
1/2 C Vinegar
1/2 C Water
1/2 C Wisk (it has to be this liquid detergent because it works the best)

Mix it all into a spray bottle and shake a little to mix. It is kind of thick so you need to have a decent spray bottle.

It is AMAZING stuff. When she sent me the instructions, she said she would just treat the stain and then throw the article of clothing in the hamper until the next wash day. I did and the stains came out BEAUTIFULLY!!! I will NEVER go back to my store bought brand. I am hooked!

~~~Also, since this is supposed to be a boredom buster version, I should mention that "I'm bored" has become a bad word at our house. Mommy is not doing so well this summer due to a raging case of Hyperemesis and I don't have the energy to entertain them like I have in past summers. Now I have a list of not-so-fun chores they get to do if they say it. I am hoping that they can figure out how to entertain themselves and not rely on me so much for ideas on what to do. My mom did this to me and my sisters when we were younger. I remember complaining one morning and my mom made me go and scrape all of the weeds out of the gutter on our side of the street. The next morning I said it again and I had to do the other side of the street. I learned pretty quick that saying "I'm bored" would get me nothing but work and I learned to use my imagination when I was younger. On our list so far is scrubbing baseboards with a toothbrush, using soap and water to scrub the garage floor, pulling weeds out of the gutter, scrubbing bird poop off of the fence, wiping the blinds (their little fingers are the perfect size for this), using Q-tips to clean the cold air returns, etc. Jobs that need to be done, but I don't always get to. So there you have it. My one and only solution for summer boredom busters!
~~~Also note that the comment moderation has been turned on. I have a yucky spam trolling on my posts leaving all kinds of ooky stuff that I would rather not have on my blog. Your comment may take a moment to show up, but it will show up! So comment away!!!

I'm bookmarking this and trying it next time I do laundry. I haven't found anything that works well yet.

Thanks for the recipe! I'm going to throw it together this weekend and try it out on some tough little boy stains... do you know if it works on "old" stains?

I will have to try that. I have had kids with a lot of bloody noses lately, and I have had a hard time getting the blood out if I don't get to it right away, so I will definately try this out. I have been giving my girls extra chores lately. They have been whining a ton. I hope your summer isn't full of boredom.

I am forever in search of a good stain remover - I'll have to try this one. My favorite stain remover is didi-seven though I havent been able to find it in the stores anymore. Last time I ordered it from Canada because it was so expensive on US websites. Sometimes it takes color out of things its so strong but if it doesnt take out a stain, nothign will.

If only I were a better housekeeper! If my Tide-to-go pen doesn't get it out, I guess it's a case of "c'est la vie"...or time to buy another.

We'll miss you in Lava!
