Calling All Digital Scrapbookers!!!

I need some direction. I used to scrapbook. The princess has two full scrapbooks of her life. I had friends that enjoyed scrapbooking. One of them divorced and moved away, two others moved, one just got busy with her kids. I never really enjoyed it, I did it because they enjoyed it and it was something to do with them (how is that for falling for peer pressure?). So poor little Pea has, oh, something like six pages to her name.

We all know that I LOVE the computer. I want to be able to have the Pea look at a scrapbook of herself and not one of her big sister and say "Oh, I'n so cute as a baby." when it is really her sister.

How did you get started? What are your favorite programs? Is it as expensive as "normal" scrapbooking? Do you have to buy kits for each page? Oh wise ones, HELP PLEASE!!!!

I know some people that love digital scrapbooking, but I don't know what programs they use. I have seen some of the programs at our library...that might be a good way for you to try some out before you commit to purchasing one brand or another. Good luck!! It is so hard to keep up with scrapbooking....anything that would help would be great!!

Please post what you find out-I want to do it to. I've never gotten into real scrapbooking (I know I'll buy the stuff and never do it!)

Hope you are feeling ok! ;)

Okay- I've sort of dabbled. I use Photoshop elements. I ordered it on Ebay for $19. It's a little tricky to learn how to use- but there are lots of tutorials online.

As for elements (paper, rivets, ect)- you can purchase them online at several places- but MOST sites give away freebies. Just google 'free digital scrapbooking elements' and you'll get a ton of hits.

It was overwhelming to find what I wanted once I downloaded tons- but I found organizing them in picasa to be fabulous. A free download from google.

Is that helpful at all?

I love digital scrapbooking, though I rarely have time to do it with a BUSY toddler.
I use Photoshop for all of my stuff (scrapbooks, headers, cards, collages...), and have downloaded all of the free kits on shabbyprincess.com. She has the best, and most free stuff I have found. Also lots of galleries to get you inspired. I also download fonts from dafont.com. They have TONS and are all free for personal use.
Good luck, hope you can get into it.

Good luck. I know there are a lot of cool software programs that my friends use. I, however, am doing my blog into a book (Liam's blog) via blurb.com. It imports it all for me.

I too have been curious about it. I know people that have just used photoshop and taken books out of the library but if they have the programs there as itybty says than even better.

Do let us all know what you end up deciding. I find it nearly impossible to scrapbook with an almost 3 year old. By the time i get the stuff out he's up from his nap and I have to put it away. I'm very interested in doing it digitally too. I just haven't taken any action yet!

I've thought about digital scrapbooking (I do it all by hand) but wondered what would happen to all the photos. I have a lot of old ones from a 35MM. I guess I could do all those by hand, and then when I'm caught up (hahahah) move to digital scrapbooking with my digital photos. I'll check back and see where this journey takes you. :)

Sigh* I wish I could but, alas, I know nothing about scrapbooking programs.
I hope you are feeling a bit better

Let me know if you find out anything good. I've thought about doing that. I love scrapbooking, but it takes up a lot of time. I am way behind.

You don't know me - but I came across your blog - and had to put a word in about digital scrapbooking. I just started learning this year, and it's a lot of fun. I use Photoshop Elements -it's very user friendly. There are many sites that have free stuff. Shabby Princess was mentioned - also look at 2Peas in a bucket, A Cherry on Top, O Scraps. Look up the Ikeagoddess blog - She posts links for digital scrapbook freebies every single day. Also - look for Misty Cato's blog. She has tutorials and freebies. There's a lot out there, and lots of sites with how-to's. Have Fun! (Also, you can go the the website Digishoptalk and look through the gallery to get ideas of what you can do with digital scrapbooking).

I love digital scrapbooking. If you buy Photoshop Elements it is around $80.00 if you buy 5. There are a ton of great websites out there to get you started. Shabby Princess has a lot of freebies. I love HeatherAnnDesigns, Shabby Miss Jean, Jen Caputo, and Ping Designs. The best things about digital is that you can reuse and recolor all of your kits. The prices vary between $2 to $8. Also, you just close down your program to clean up!!!

I keep thinking I need to look into it, too, for the same reasons. But then I think that a lot of why I enjoy scrapbooking is the texture, the creating with my hands. Plus, the computer gives me a headache if I'm on too long. But make sure to post what you make, I want to see :)

I want to know this stuff, too!

Checking in to see how you're doing. I think of you often :-)

Thank you for your sweet comments on my blog!! I feel so bad that I have not made it over here sooner . . . and I had no idea that you were PREGNANT!!! Congratulations!!!! I am so excited for you!

Leilani told me that you were really getting into digital scrapbooking! That is awesome! I wanted to let you know that I have a tutorial that I made (very basic) for some girls in my neighborhood about digi scrapping - but it is at home, on my other computer. I can send it to you as soon as I get back from vacation . . . of course, you have probably figured a lot out by now! I also use Photoshop 7 - but I will say that PSE is a lot simpler and easier to use. It looks like someone else already pointed you to one of my favorite scrapbooking sites, Shabby Princess. I also love twopeasinabucket.com. This site was actually the first one to get me started! They have great downloads (some for free) and they also have an excellent group of girls in their forums. I really learned A TON of tricks in the forum. I actually became kind of obsessed with the whole thing and ended up buying a lot of books on Photoshop, etc so that I could create my own pages and so forth. I really enjoy it! I can't wait to see what you have done! Let me know if you need any help!
