The Story

We were waiting to hear back to see if she would need surgery. We are still waiting to hear from the radiologist. Probably not is what we have so far.

Oh, and the picture, totally taken before the "incident".

We were getting ready to go to my parents very good friends daughters wedding reception. Did anyone follow that? I had just changed Tess's dress and finished her hair and asked her to go and get in the car. Our kids bathroom is at the top of our stairs and you can see all the way down the stairs to the living room from the bathroom. I was trying to finish curling Amelia's hair and I looked over to see Tess walk off the top stair and do two cartwheels down the stairs and land on her nose. I threw the flat iron down, said a bad word and ran. You know how those moments are always slow motion? Mine was. She stopped on the landing and IMMEDIATELY blood came gushing. It took a good twenty minutes to stop. Poor girl. She was the most worried about her dress. Don't worry, all of the blood came out. For the rest of the night every time she cried, her nose bled. It looked swollen and crooked but no black eyes. Until today. Today they have purplish lines underneath.

Anyways, I always hate taking them to the doctor for things like this. When Amelia was a baby, she was learning to crawl and both my husband and I thought the other one was watching her and she fell down our stairs. I freaked out and ran her to the doctor where they proceeded to grill us about her falling and basically accused me of hurting her. Yeah, if I had intentionally hurt her, wouldn't I have hid it vs. going to make sure I hadn't permanently hurt my baby? I know they are doing their job, but still, it makes you cringe when you know the only time you have EVER spanked your kid is when they were running into the street because an 18-month really can't process that they will get squished by a car but they can process that mommy will swat their little behind if they go in the street again. But, I digress. Since then, I am a little gun shy.

Our pediatrician was wonderful though. He has seven kids of his own and he knows that things like this happen. I did express my concern because this is happening way too often. She falls at least six times a day...sometimes more, rarely less. So we have to do some detective work to figure out if something is really wrong or if she is just our family's "Accident Annie".

Monday we start with the eye doctor.

If that doesn't work, then we go to the Ear, Nose and Throat specialist.

If that doesn't give us any answers, then we head to the neurologist.

I am hoping that she just needs some glasses.

I hope she feels better soon!

I have to admit this is a big fear of ours-the stairs. A broken nose has got to be painful! I always worry about hitting the head...I digress.

Surely correcting vision will help. We have a "dreamy" child who walks into things as he is running his hand along items or looking elsewhere.

Shame on that first ped. As if parents don't have enough guilt.

Oh my gosh what a scary thing to have happen... for both of you!!

I know a good optometrist that can get you in Monday morning if you need. LMK.

Oh the poor thing! My Joshua cartwheeled down our stairs last year and about had a heart attack. So did my mom whom I was talking to on the phone! I hope they figure out that nothing is wrong, Brittany looks cute in her glasses. You could always have her fitted for a helemt!

Been there done that. and it is not fun.

I had a doctor give me the child abuse lecture when my kids were smaller. I felt horrable for years, and I too quit going for in to have them checked when the fell. Except of course when Kirsti broke her nose. That was pretty obvious. It was almost L shaped. she had to have surgery, and it wasn't too bad. The worst part was trying to keep her from falling and bumping it again when she went back to kindergarten. Those kids are pretty crazy.

I hope she is feeling better soon and that your heart beat returns to normal soon. Its horrable to watch your child fall like that.

You don't know me from Adam but I visit your blog often. My first thought upon reading your latest post was "Not Tess again!"

I hope Tess isn't serously hurt, but you're right, she ought to be checked out thoroughly. We will keep all of you in our prayers. God bless!
