Summer Solstice...or, do you believe in fairies?
Because I do.
Some of you don't know this, some of you do. I was raised by a hippie/artsy mom. Right now she and my dad are at the Sun Tunnels celebrating the longest day of the year with some of the most random people. The naked man who lives in his sod hut, hippies who never grew up, rich people who claim to be artsy, etc.
At my house we celebrate the Summer Solstice just a tiny bit differently. Since I don't like being around random naked men, we celebrate Midsummer night instead.
The night of the Summer Solstice is the shortest night of the year. The night fairies come out and play. I explained to my daughters that we have to have a place for them to rest and flowers for them to use as clothing. So tonight we planted our very first "Fairy Garden".
We are hoping the fairies sprinkle a bit of good luck at our house tonight.

I read a book called "Wicked Lovely" this spring; it is a novel filled with fairies, set in present day...I listened to it in the car on CD and I could hardly wait to leave for work each morning!
How fun!!! I bet your little girls had so much fun making that. That will be a fun memory they will share with their own little kids someday.
