Bad Mommy Moment

So I don't know if it is the hormones catching up to me, the seven-year old little girl attitude hitting , the general naughtiness that comes with the holidays or the complete lack of sleep that seems to be prolific around here lately, but today I had a moment that made me sad for my kids. You know, the freak-out-yell-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-make-my-kids-cry moments. One of those moments that makes me sad they got me for a mommy.

And I feel terrible about it.

I resorted to acting how my three-year old should act, but never does.

I apologized to them. Over and over. They said they forgive me. So now how do I get rid of this ache in my heart that tells me I broke them?

Sometimes being the mommy just really sucks.

Oh man. Just know you're not a lone. And resolve to do better the next day. Hug your kids a lot, that makes all of you feel better.

(Read or reread President Hinkley's essay in the December Ensign. I just read it myself yesterday and wow was it good.)

I hear ya! We've all had bad mommy moments. I can remember my mom yelling once "Just shut the he** up!!" really loudly. I was like 8. She never talked like that. Anyway, I'm not warped by it. It just reminds me that mom's are human too.

:( I know.

Tori is right. Cheer up! Most of the time we are pretty ok.

Part of being whole as a person is accepting the good and the bad we do. :) Every mother has done it...and if they say they haven't...they're lying! :)

Look at it in percentages. 99.9% of the time you are probably not yelling at your kids...so they are 99.9% likely to turn out just fine. :)

You rock! Good luck with the no sleep thing!

I am glad I am not alone... moments like that make me feel so unworthy of motherhood.

It's true that kids need to see the "human" side of us that acts out and then apologizes. It just feels rotten when it happens.

I think it is actually a good sign you feel so bad, lots of folks don't. And being a grown up just is the pits some days!

I hate days like that! I hope you have had better days since then.

If it makes you feel better, my whole week has been like this. We had the missionaries over for dinner and the kids wouldn't stop hitting their plates and silverware on the table. I not only took away their trip to see Santa after dinner, I threw a plate on the counter after my husband came in to referee and spent the entire dinner in my room. Tonight I told them that if they touched any of the ornaments on the tree I would take the tree down and they would have to write letters to Santa explaining why we have no tree. Not my proudest moments. I blame my mom's impending visit on top of the other 80,000 things that need to be done before Friday.
