STOP THEM NOW!

Is your blog content being stolen and used without your permission? Chances are the answer to that is yes. Pattie at Stolen Moments, along with numerous others have had their writings taken from their blogs by a devious company called Bitacle, which is posting it and making money off it. Please visit this website to see how to get your information removed.

I searched for several blogs that I visit and found work from them. Dawnyel, Kristen, Nettie, No Cool Story, ABC Momma, Gabs, Beth, Millie, Both Stephanies besides me, Rachelle, Alicia, Smart Mama...you may all want to check to see if your information has been stolen. I am pretty sure I saw one of each of yours in my search.

They have many posts of mine up. Katie emailed me about it this week. Thanks for the links to places that can help us figure out what to do. Hubby and I have been discussing it. It looks like this site (Bitacle) works like bloglines in that it just uses rss feeds each time we post. I think if we stop posting in rss then they can't get our stuff, but that would also mean bloglines wouldn't work on our site. While I'm not sure of it, I think what this site does is legal because it gives us credit as the writers. It's just another way of viewing blogs, like bloglines, which is also legal even though we never gave bloglines permission to display our posts, but this site is skeezy because it is used for the purpose of ads.

wow, I didn't know about this. I clicked over to their website and I couldn't figure out how to search. I don't think I've seen mine in what I've searched. I have to wonder if its because of some code I have which blocks searches. Or maybe I'm not doing it right. Its very disturbing.

On one of my posts, they did one of those trackback things. I just thought it was something like Bloglines. Didn't know the part about the money. If they have made any money from my material, I want a check for my two pennies NOW! (Am I considered a professional if someone else is getting paid for my work?)

Yeah, how did you find my stuff on this site?

Yeah, they have 95 of my posts! At first I thought they were just a blog feed service like bloglines. But, since they are taking entire posts, including my pictures and posting them on their site, with ads, without my permission - I would call that stealing!

And after reading, I guess I'm partly to blame for having my site feeds set to full, instead of short. I've done that, but it doesn't give me back what they've taken.

The sad thing is, all this attention has probably really boosted their traffic, and incoming cash from ads.

(To find myself I searched for key words from my blog title under the "aggregates" search I found them using "singing verse".)

I just did a little research on copyright law. According to current law, you do not have to register your work for it to be copyrighted. All published literary work is! You don't even have to put a notice of it being copyrighted on your work. I just added one to my blog, though. It wouldn't have stopped these thieves, but it might make someone else think twice.

Crazy... Just found my stuff on there too. Is anyone doing anything about it or does it really matter? If so, what do we do if we don't want our stuff on there??

I've been searching all day, and I'm in with those who are confused about where to find our stuff. I've done a search on their thing and from what I've found it's like searching through Google...maybe I'm doing it wrong, but what exactly is going on!? (Just to be sure about it all I've put one of those copyright notices on my blog...will it help...no one knows!)

How do you search? I'm stupid and can't figure it out.

Yeah, can someone tell us how to search and see if our stuff is there?

Thanks for the heads up Steph!

My stuff is up there, and according to my husband it is just a search engine like google. Or even searching blogs on blogger. If I put in my blog name on google, links to my blog come up too. Maybe they have changed it recently since people got angry, I never saw whole blogs with pictures, just a few lines, and then you click on it and it goes to your blog. I also didn't see any advertising on it, but again, they may have changed it because there are alot of angry websites about it out there. Anyway, I think how it is now, they aren't doing anything wrong, but you'll have to let me know how it was before.
Either way, I agree that it is creepy to find your stuff up on some random website.
