Birthday Party Help

Okay, I am sending a request out to the masses. My oldest is turning 6 around Labor Day. It has been the sole subject of *EVERY* conversation we have had for weeks. I have told her now that she can only talk about it until noon. Now I need to talk about it.

We have only had "family" parties for her birthday so far. Piece of cake. Now for the first time EVER, she gets to have a friend party. We will only do them every other year starting when they turn six.

So my dilema, I need ideas. She loves all things girl...princesses, tea-party, dress-up, pretend play, magic, make-up, hair, clothes, sparklies, arts and crafts, etc.

When I ask her what it is that she wants for her party, she tells me

"Oh, I don't know, you decide."

What kind of six-year old says that?!?!?! She has a list a mile long of all the people she wants to invite and that is as far as it has gone.

Help!!!!!!!

We had a super fun hula party when my oldest turned 5. I made little hula tops and glued hibiscus flowers onto flip flops for all the girls ahead of time. We made leis and grass (crepe paper) skirts---kits from Oriental Trading---at the party. The Barbie cake had a grass skirt. We limboed and had pina coladas.

What super cute ideas! For Bella's 6th (that must be the magic birthday party age) we had a beauty party. We loaded up all 8 little girls and went to the local beauty school, and the girls all had their hair done up like it was Prom night, and had sparkles and stuff put in it, and got their nails done. It was SO CUTE and they had such a good time being beautiful little ladies.

At another party, we had all the girls wear their dress-up clothes and we had a princess picnic party outside. Also very fun.

Pssst, it's Naddin aka Blissful Play-doh Picker. Someday I'll settle on a name. ;)

We're planning an art party for my soon to be 5yo. We're going to get some cheap canvas boards and have everyone paint an acrylic painting. They'll get a smock (can get those at the dollar store) to keep. I'll probably think up some other arty-type stuff. My ds, who is 6, just had an awesome carnival party. It was a blast. We played 5 carnival games, rented a bouncer, had popcorn (I drew the line at the cotton candy machine) and could invite more kids since it was all outside. Anyway, those aren't super girly stuff, but they might work.

Everyone had so many good ideas so far! I'm not sure what to suggest. I never really had a theme party!

I have no idea. I did like the beauty parlor idea, though. Even Cutie (2) loves to get her nails painted.

Parties themes let me think.....

My sis in law just did a gross out party. They had those Jelly Belly beans from the Potter movie. Then they had all these really gross things to feel under a towel. They took home fake eyeballs, ect.

If she's all girly like that, take them to Libby Lu's. Have you heard of it?? I can't wait to have Sissy's party there.

They have girls dress them up, do their makeup, they sing with headsets like Britney Spears, make their own perfume - it's the coolest!! Go to www.clublibbylu.com and see if there is one nearby. Now I'm not sure of the cost but it's a princesses dreamland!

As a mom of boys, I can't relate, but my best friend did a princess party and all the girls dressed up. She served small sandwiches and "cute" stuff.

The beauty parlor is a cute idea!!! That should keep them occupied for hours!!!

Here is a great site I have used time and time again!
http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/party_ideas.html
People post their party ideas from invitations to decorations to games to cake ideas. Awesome!

Oh and Oriental Trading company is my dear dear partying friend.

Sorry, Ican be of no help. My daughter doens't like princesses or pink or anything girly.

But, thanks for the Zofran advice, I am totally going to self-medicate when I get to Mexico next week! Did you take 4 mg or 8 mg a day??

Since I am all about everything frugal (and easy), here's my idea. Its the princess/cook/tea party. (Little girls love them all, so why not do them all)

As the little girls arrive, dress them in dollar store tiaras and boas (or scarves), costume jewelry from Goodwill (or from around the house). When all the little girls are there, they make their own bagel pizzas. These are eaten on a picnic blanket in the back yard, front room, somewhere fun/special. Then for dessert they decorate cupcakes or sugar cookies. Then afterwards for a fun activity (using a plain bedsheet as a dropcloth) you could take pictures and send them home with them as a souvenier.

I did a "Ladybug Picnic" party for my daughter. We did "Pin the Dots on the ladybug" and "Musical Dots." I made these TOO cute ladybug cupcakes with chocolate chips as the dots. For party hats we gave antenna headbands made out of headbands and styrofoam balls painted black. Also- at every party I have a get butcher paper for the tablecloth and let the kids decorate it themselves. That takes up time while you're waiting for everyone to get there. I've also let the kids decorate their own cupcakes which was a huge hit!

Wow. That's a tough one. All my kids ever want to do is go to Chuck E. Cheese's. How original is that? I'm going to have to start thing about this soon, too.

I've got nothing. I just wanted to say that I'm excited to see what you come up with.

Definitely call Ity. She is the party theme queen, and you lucky girl have her phone number!

My only advice it to rename all the old party games to use with the theme. Pin the crown on the princess, or "Flower, Flower, Flower, Fairy" instead of ducks and a goose. There is a reason those old games have been around for ages. They work. Also a craft is a great party starter.

The best party I ever had for my daughter was when she turned 6! We invited everyone to her "Little" Birthday Party. I made a tiny little pink housefront complete with little windows and window boxes out of a huge sheet of cardboard and used it to cover our real front door. The fake doorway on the housefront was only 6 year old size! Inside the house I set up as many tiny tables and chairs as I could find (borrowed from friends and neighbors) and used small plates (dessert size) small glasses (juice size) and small silverware. Everything was scaled down to "very small". All the food was little, we had bagel bites pizza, mini corn dogs, baby tomatoes, gherkin pickles, you know...

The invitations were printed on business cards and I used the little envelopes you get at the florist (I got mine at Walmart because they were blank on the outside). They were too small to mail but I put them inside a regular sized envelope. The invitations said something like "I'm having a "little" birthday party, please come help me celebrate" Then I put some small things in the envelope to emphasize the "little" theme....a tiny mirror, a tiny flower, and a tiny paper card (I got these things at a scrabbooking store)

For the activity I baked a "birthday cake" for each girl in a small but sort of deep ramekin. They each got three bags (ziplog baggies) full of colored frosting and got to decorate their own cake ... I had lots of things for them to put on it too for decorations (anything I could find that was tiny)

For the favors I made little purses and filled them with tiny sample sizes of chapstick, perfume, lotion, and even found some miniature toys like tiny watercolor sets, tiny charm journals, etc.

All her friends still remember that party it was FUN! They are now all 14 but whenever they come over it's the first thing they say...."remember the tiny door and the tiny food?" Have fun!
