My Life Monday (on Tuesday)...My Favorite Childhood Toy

Thank you again Rachelle for giving us such fun ideas to post about.

I received my favorite childhood toy for Christmas when I was six years old. Santa brought me this beautiful hand-made Barbie house. Back then it was there was much more detail involved. It was painted blue and it had white railings on the balcony and spindles on the front porch. There were hand-painted shutters on every window and there were ornamental white moldings above every window. Over time I broke my little toe on the spindles and in turn, broke them. The railings were sat on by little boys. The glue on the shutters turned brittle and then broke off. Regardless of its deterioration, I loved this toy. I spent countless hours rearranging the furniture, dressing up the dolls, positioning them in the house, making artwork for it. It was my miniature masterpiece. I honestly think this is what sparked my love of homemaking and my creativity.

Since then, I have put in a little time here and there restoring the dollhouse. It has had a paint job and had the kitchen redone, new carpet laid, new paint, etc. I have some railing in my sister-in-laws garage to go in and I am trying to figure out new spindles. It is a slow-going project that has given me much joy.

I realized that when I took this picture, there have been some new features added by my DD's. Notice the pencil lines along the front of the house and the sticker on the trim. Hmmmm...Maybe they have the redecorating bug as well.

For now she sits lonely in the black hole we call the basement. I need to work on her so that my dd's can play with her and have the memories that I had as a little girl.

That doll house is just too cool! The houses that were made by the Barbie company I thought were a little cheesey. Nothing beats a real doll house!

That is a beautiful little dollhouse. I hate to see what my kids would have done to it over any length of time. :) Bravo to you for taking such good care of it.
